Well, I got back to find a new First Sergeant. Not a good thing. Our old 1SG was a great guy, and he was on our side. He was a leader. He was willing to let the buck stop with him. He wasn't always proactive, but he looked out for us. I was happy to call him "Top". Our current 1SG is a manager, not a leader. His behavior and policies make it clear he does not trust us, and he has yet to visibly go to bat for us. And that's all I want to say about that.
The weather is cooling down. We have had some highs in the low 80s, with overnight temps in the 50s. It feels good. The dust storms are diminishing, but they are always a possibility. I am flying a little less right now, as we try to develop and standardize some policies and procedures. This is a new program, and we are starting from scratch as we develop training manuals. But, soon our mission load will increase (another long story that has a lot to do with general officers making some dubious comparisons with another similar program run largely by civilians, and with a very different mission structure).
A lot of the units we are supporting have started to rotate home, so there is change in some of our missions, and changes on post. The active part of TF Odin has also rotated -- lots of new faces and some new policies. Nothing too drastic, but they new folks are trying to create some new rules, like having to wear full uniforms and salute officers in our living area. This has been our sanctuary up to this point. So far, this bad idea has not come to fruition. But you never know. On the main post, they are putting up permanent speed limit signs. As some are saying, "we went to war, and a garrison is breaking out". Meaning, a lot of the annoying BS things that happen on stateside posts and are usually ignored/discontinued in a deployed/combat setting are being resurrected.
